Tribunal sacks Labour Party’s Ngozi Okolie, declares PDP’s Ndudi Elumelu winner

Delta State Election Petition Tribunal on Monday, sacked Ngozi Okolie, the Labour Party, LP, candidate representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, as the winner of the February 25 National Assembly election.

In its verdict, the tribunal held that Okolie was not duly sponsored by the Labour Party as he was not a member of the party as at May 28, 2022 when the primary purportedly held.

Former National Publicity Secretary and 2023 Spokesperson of the presidential campaign of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a tweet celebrated the victory tagging Elumelu’s picture.

It would be recalled that INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Kenneth Abaribe had declared the LP candidate Ngozi Okolie as the winner of the February 25 election.

“Having polled 53,879 votes to defeat candidate of the PDP who polled 33,456 votes as required by law, I hereby declare LP as the winner of the election for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency,” he declared.

Ngozi Okolie of LP polled a total vote of 53,879 to defeat the incumbent minority leader Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party who polled 33,456, while Tony Nwaake of APC polled 11, 712 votes.
