Traditional ruler, prime minister shot dead in Imo State

Unknown gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Orsu Obodo Community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, HRH Eze Victor Ijioma.

Gunmen also killed the traditional prime minister of the Mgbele community, Isama of Mgbele, in the same Oguta LGA.

It was gathered that the two men were slain in separate strikes in different towns on Thursday, May 25, 2023. 

According to community sources, the Orsu Obodo monarch was assassinated inside his car at Umuamaka Junction in the neighboring town of Izombe.

The source further said that the attackers set his corpse ablaze inside his vehicle after killing him. 

The Mgbele community leader was killed in his hometown.

According to another local source, military and other security personnel have expanded their presence in Izombe, Mgbele, and the nearby communities to apprehend the killers. 

“The Eze Igwe of Orsu Obodo was reportedly accosted when he was driving at Umuakama Junction in the afternoon. They shot him, lit him on fire in his car, and then they fled the scene,” the source said. 

“Soldiers and other security personnel are actively searching the villages for the attackers as I speak to you.”
