The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has announced the emergence of Comrade Solomon Adodo as the new President of the Council following a major leadership shake-up and the expulsion of former president Mr. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo.
This development was confirmed in a communique issued after an emergency National Management Meeting held on June 13 in Abuja. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders including affiliate-member organizations, state chairpersons, zonal representatives, and veterans of the Council. The session was convened in response to a series of leadership failures and constitutional breaches that had severely undermined the Council’s functionality.
Sukubo Expelled Over Alleged Gross Misconduct
The Council announced the immediate expulsion of Mr. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, citing serious allegations that include forgery of official documents, issuance of a ₦200 million dud cheque, constitutional violations, unilateral decision-making, and abuse of office. According to the communique, Sukubo’s actions resulted in the paralysis of the Council’s operations and a growing disconnect between the NYCN and the broader Nigerian youth constituency.
In addition to Mr. Sukubo, two other senior officials were also expelled: Mr. Innocent Nduanya (former Deputy President) and Mr. Abubakar Suleiman Esq. (former Secretary General). Both were accused of enabling the administrative and financial misconducts that plagued the previous leadership.
Council Laments Decline Under Previous Leadership
The NYCN criticized the previous administration for failing to align with the youth-focused agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Despite the government’s rollout of numerous empowerment initiatives, the Council under Sukubo’s leadership allegedly failed to mobilize youths or communicate these programmes effectively at the grassroots level.
“This institutional dysfunction led to rising youth restiveness, misinformation, and agitations against a government that has shown sincere commitment to youth development,” the communique stated.
New Leadership Structure Unveiled
To restore confidence and operational integrity, the Council announced a new National Executive Council (NEC) with Comrade Solomon Adodo as President. The leadership team includes:
- Comrade Rikki Nwajiofor – Deputy President
- Comrade Akoshile Muhktar – Vice President, North Central
- Comrade Dauda Muhammad Gombe – Vice President, North East
- Comrade Mu’ammar Gaddafi – Vice President, North West
- Comrade Nnonyelu Williams – Vice President, South East
- Comrade Dan Obo Jnr. – Vice President, South South
- Amb. Bright Eniafe Ojo – Vice President, South West
- Comrade Abdulrahman Bala – Secretary General
…and 18 other officers representing various regions and departments within the Council.
The new leadership was described as “youth-driven patriots committed to promoting inclusion, good governance, and national development.”
Pledge to Support the Tinubu Administration
The NYCN under Adodo reaffirmed its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu. The Council commended the President for appointing young Nigerians to key federal positions and rolling out youth-focused initiatives across ministries, departments, and agencies.
“We are prepared to partner fully with the Federal Government and all relevant institutions to ensure that these interventions are well-communicated, effectively implemented, and equitably distributed to youths, especially at the grassroots,” the new leadership pledged.
Call for Unity and Forward Momentum
The Council called on all youth organizations, civil society groups, development partners, and government agencies to support the new NEC in its efforts to reposition the Council. It promised to serve as a reliable link between government policies and the needs of Nigerian youths, emphasizing that NYCN will henceforth act as a true voice for the youth constituency nationwide.
“NYCN has reclaimed its space as the veritable vehicle through which grassroots youth will feel the impact of the government,” the communique concluded.
The statement was signed by the newly elected President, Comrade Solomon Adodo, and Secretary General, Comrade Abdulrahman Bala.
