CIVIL ACTIVISTS CHALLENGE ONDO FINANCE COMMISSIONER TO PRODUCE EVIDENCE, PROVE CLAIMS THAT BETTY AKEREDOLU KILLED LATE GOVERNOR OR FACE WRATH OF LAW, PUBLIC CONTEMPT
Some renowned Civil Activists under the auspices of the Organisation of Justice for Equity Sustenance have issued stern warning and placed demands on the Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State, Mrs Omowunmi Isaac to provide concrete evidences and prove her allegation that Her Excellency, Betty Akeredolu was responsible for death of her late husband, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, immediate past Governor of Ondo State.
In a Press Release issued by the Director of Media and Public Communications of the Organization, Comr. Oscar David, Kalu in Abuja on Monday, 17th February 2025, the Group claimed to have received a WhatsApp conversation between Dr. Betty Akeredolu, the widow of the late Governor, whereby Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac made assertion that she had evidence where the Late Governor was pushed, and blood rushed to his brain by his wife, Dr. Betty Akeredolu.
She further stated that the late Governor did not die of Cancer but was killed by the wife, promising to provide the evidence to substantiate claims.
The Civil Right Group then went on to issue stern warning to the Finance Commissioner to get ready to publicly prove those weighty allegations with convincing evidence or risk unbeatable public contempt and wrath of the law, as they will mobilize Civil Society Organisations in Ondo State and beyond for Mass Action and drag her to appear before a Court of competent jurisdiction to present her case.
“We as an organization will not allow such very sensitive and important information about our late and beloved Governor to be swept under the carpet, hence, we use this opportunity to call on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the said allegations as claimed by the Commissioner for Finance of Ondo State” the Press Text partly read.
“We hereby give 7 days ultimatum to the Commissioner of Finance, Ondo State, Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac to provide all evidences in her possession to the public or the security agencies. Murder is a criminal offense and matter of public interest and social justice, which must not be treated light, especially when it concerns death of an Executive Governor of a State” the text continued.
“We had earlier communicated the said petition to the Inspector General of Police and our National Body, National Civil Society Council in Nigeria, and waiting for the directives of the Executive Director of the umbrella body for Civil Societies in Nigeria, before embacking on our next line of action” the text concluded.
When contacted the Executive Director of the National Civil Society Council of Nigeria, Blessing Akinlosotu, who incidentally is from Ondo State, tconfirmed having received the said Petition, and informed that the leadership of the Council was looking into the matter and will take firm and decisive action very soon.
