In a significant move to enhance port security and prevent illegal arms supply into the country, the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command has achieved a laudable feat by successfully arresting one Biodun Ojo ‘m’ for attempting to conceal and aid smuggling of small arms and light weapons into the country.
on 11/03/2025, at about 1815 hrs, officers of Roro Port Division received a credible intelligence report that while stevedores were offloading an overtime container at the action free trade terminal, one Biodun Ojo ‘m’, a clearing agent tactfully removed one Remington express rifle, one Rugar impact 22 can rifle, 42 live cartridges, one English pistol one round of 9mm live ammunition, and 10 rounds of 9.9mm live ammunition from the container being stripped and threw the weapons into a septic tank in a bid to conceal the smuggled weapons.
Upon swiftly arriving the scene, the suspect was arrested by the police, and all weapons were recovered, while the command remains on the trail of the importer and other conspirators within and outside the command’s area of responsibility.
While investigation continues, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba psc (+) assures that the command under his watch would not be a transit point for gun runners. He further encouraged ports users, unions, critical stakeholders and the general public to continue to share credible intelligence with the command to ensure national security is upheld, trade fraud is stamped out while creating an enabling environment for trade facilitation and attracting more foreign investment to the country.
