The Kaduna State Police Command has disowned and arrested an officer, Hadaina Hussaini, popularly known as Dan-Taki, who was caught on social media threatening violent retaliation against southerners following the killing of 16 northerners in Uromi, Edo State.
SaharaReporters had reported how Hussaini, dressed in police uniform in a now-viral Facebook post, incited ethnic violence by vowing revenge on southerners residing in the northern part of the country.
The post, which triggered outrage across the country, showed Hussaini swearing by Almighty God and warning that Southerners “would see results within one week.”
“I swear to Almighty God, we must do something for you guys. Have you forgotten all your brothers that are living here in the North? Mark my word, after one week you shall see the result,” the post read.
But in a swift reaction, the Kaduna State Police Command issued a statement debunking any association with him.
The police revealed that Hussaini was dismissed from the Police Special Constabulary two years ago due to his questionable character.
“The attention of Kaduna State Police Command has been drawn to a comment made on a Facebook post credited to one Hadaina Hussaini (Dan-Taki), which has been making rounds on social media with the caption ‘Kaduna Police Officer Threatens Retaliation Against Southerners In Uromi Killings,’” the statement reads.
“To set the record straight, Hadaina Hussaini is neither a member of the Nigeria Police Force nor a personnel of Kaduna State Police Command.”
According to the command, the uniform seen in the viral photo was worn when Hussaini was still part of the Police Special Constabulary, a voluntary service wing of the police — from which he was kicked out for misconduct.
“The picture captured on police uniform, which is an improper dressing, was taken when he was a member of the Police Special Constabulary. He was dismissed two years ago. The uniform he wore bears ‘PSC/KD,’ meaning Police Special Constabulary, Kaduna. The photo was also taken before his dismissal,” the statement clarified.
SaharaReporters learnt that Hussaini was arrested shortly after the inciting post and is currently in custody.
The police confirmed that he would be charged to court after preliminary investigations were concluded.
“The suspect has been arrested and will be charged in court upon the completion of preliminary investigations in accordance with extant laws,” the command added.
