A tragic boat accident in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West, Delta State, has claimed the lives of over 30 passengers, including a toddler.

It is reported that while many are still missing, the lifeless body of the one-year-old child was later found floating along the creek.

The accident occurred when the speedboat, returning from a burial ceremony, collided with a submerged log, causing it to capsize.

The passengers, most of whom lacked life jackets and could not swim, were thrown into the river.

Eyewitnesses reported that the boat was travelling at high speed when the collision occurred. “The passengers struggled to stay afloat,” witnesses recounted, describing the harrowing scene.

Rescue teams continue to search the area, but hopes of finding more survivors are fading.

Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, promised to provide updates after gathering details of the accident, Daily Post reports.
