A Nigerian laundry man, Oluwatosin Micheal, in Oyo State, has invited the general public to bring their clean clothes for free ironing as he embarks on 120-hour longest ironing marathon to break Guinness World Record.

Micheal, who is the co-founder of Laundrypal Cleaning Services in Ojoo, Ibadan, said that the current record of 100 hours was set by Gareth Sanders from the United Kingdom in 2015.

On why he chose to embark on the record attempt, Michael said, “I have been in the Laundry and Dry Cleaning Services since 2016 and I recently completed a training in 3D animation and Post Production organised by YAPPI; this event will mark my transition into the 3D animation and Post Production Industry.”

On what he hopes to achieve, he said, “We want to channel the goal of the ironing event to appeal to the Oyo State Government and well meaning Nigerians, to assist my community with a transformer (Ojoo High School).

“Our business is located at Abutu and the community shares the same transformer with Ojoo High School and environs.

“The transformer has been faulty for more than 2 months, it has affected my business and we could not host the event there.

“We heard you asked people to provide clean clothes to iron free of charge, can you talk about that?

“We will be ironing for 120 hours and 25 pieces of clothes is our estimate per hour; hence, at least 3,000 clothes will be needed for the event. To get this volume, people need to bring their washed clothes for the success of the event.”

Michael said that to achieve his target, it will take him six days of continuous ironing as the rest periods will be deducted from the total hours used.

“For example, if we ironed for 140 hours, 5 minutes per hour will be deducted and the total approved hour will be 128 hours,” he said.

On the support he has gotten, he said, “Support has not been as expected, the organisation we have written to messaged us that they will get back to us.”

On challenges he is facing in the course of his preparation for the marathon, Michael said, “How to get a stable and or uninterrupted electricity for the event is a major challenge.

“Secondly, we need more than 300 volunteers to ensure a successful event, getting people to volunteer amidst their schedules.”
