Mazi Dickson Iroegbu

Award winning film maker, Mazi Dickson Iroegbu has reiterated his confidence in the competence and capacity of Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi to restore the lost of glory of Nigeria if elected president in 2023 election.

Iroegbu who is also the convener of Indigenous People of Nigeria disclosed this as he marked his 45th birthday in Abuja. He told our correspondent in an exclusive interview that Nigerian children have been robbed of basic quality education which he enjoyed as a child owing to bad leadership and mismanagement of resources.

He insists that his birthday celebration cannot prevent him from drawing attention to the plight of Nigerians especially those born in the 70s, 80s, 90s and the millennials. According to him, at 45, the struggle for a better Nigeria is a marathon race and victory awaits Nigerians in 2023 to witness the rise of the giant of Africa.

Having anchored a television program, Nigeria Right Now, Iroegbu is passionate about a new Nigeria that will reflect the dreams of founding fathers of the nation who were truly role models to young people without vote buying and manipulation. He views Mr Peter Obi as the hope that represents the aspirations of young people.

“The next phase of my life will witness a miraculous revolution which Peter Obi represents in his campaign. Look at the document he has reeled out as manifesto, particularly how to tackle poverty. Any candidate who is not telling Nigerians how we can end this negative tag of World Poverty Capital, is wasting his time. That’s why we are supporting Peter Obi. Nigeria has done well for me and it will be right to fight for Nigeria. If I wasn’t a Nigeria, I don’t think I would have won AMAA at 24. My highest accomplishment is being alive and healthy. In my career, winning AMAA at the maiden edition was a landmark event in my life. It enabled me to expand my view and think beyound making movies. I don’t have any regrets. I am grateful to God for seeing 45 years on earth. Everything I have achieved is by the grace of God. I believe God to clock 90 years. I was born in 1977 and I hold my generation responsible to establish an egalitarian society where fairness, justice and equity will reign. Nigeria ought to be a super power considering our human and natural resources. We cannot abandon Nigeria especially now that election is close. We have the opportunity to secure the next generation of Nigeria. We must hold our leaders accountable. Our founding fathers were in this same age when they fought the colonial masters. We owe this nation a responsibility. We see Peter Obi as possessing the qualities and capacity to become the next president of Nigeria. We must get the best in 2023 and that best is Peter Obi.”

Iroegbu believes that Peter Obi’s track record as governor of Anambra State distinguishes him from other presidential candidates. Obi according to him will form a government of unity that will consider the interest of all Nigerians. For him, the present generation can trust Peter Obi with a guaranttee that he will perform and secure Nigeria as president. He says Obi’s antecedents proves that he has high value for education, security, agriculture and employment.

Speaking on his forthcoming event and book presentation, the award winning director and television host says that the Who Owns Nigeria project will be launched before the presidential election to enable him present his findings after anchoring the Nigeria Right Now television program for 7 years. The event will bring Nigerians from all walks of life together and make them conscious of the implication of casting votes during the election.

Iroegbu concludes that the high rate of unemployment for the individual is a choice while it signifies failure for the government. For him, relocating out of Nigeria is not an alternative or solution. He would rather stay and work for the progress of Nigeria as he attains the age of 45.
