Amassive fire engulfed Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, Lagos State, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
It was learnt that the fire broke out on Tuesday around 1am, consuming numerous shops and warehouses stocked with mechanical tools, vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, and household electrical appliances.
Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours and successfully contained it by 6am.
Similarly, another fire erupted at Owode Onirin Market, affecting shops dealing in metallic materials.
Emergency responders from the Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations managed to bring the situation under control by 5am.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, led by Director Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that no casualties were recorded in either incident.
She commended the efforts of firefighters from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa stations, who faced challenges in accessing the affected areas but prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses.
Adeseye assured the public that investigations were underway to determine the causes of both fires.
“Thankfully, no casualties were recorded in either incident. The causes of the fires will be ascertained as soon as firefighting operations progress to the next stage,” she stated.
