Man commits suicide over hardship and wife’s infidelity

A 38-year-old man Identified as Gabriel Iliya Magaji, of Masaka, has committed suicide in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, due to hardship and his wife’s alleged infidelity.

It was gathered that the father of three hung himself with a rope inside a classroom in Crystal School, Masaka on Monday, September 9, 2024.

According to a Facebook post, the deceased found out that his friends allegedly often slept with his wife in exchange for money because he could not provide for his family due to the current economic hardship in the country.

“When he confronted his wife, she said, she was doing that because he couldn’t afford to bring food to the table,” the post alleged. 

“According to the wife, the friends of his husband often have sex with her and give her money which she uses the money to buy food items which even the late husband and their 3 Kids eat.”

On his part, one Dan Alheri claimed that the man was hurt when he found out that friends were ‘trying to date his wife.’

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Nansel Ramhan, confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday, September 11. 

“On Monday around 7am a report was lodged by a staff of Crystal School Masaka, in our office in Masaka division, that an unidentified man was found hanging in one of the classes, in Crystal School Masaka,” the PPRO stated. 

“Upon receipt of the complaint, the DPO led his men to the scene and untiED the corpse and took it to the General Hospital Mararaba, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor, so the corpse was deposited in the morgue.” 

The PPRO further disclosed that there was no suicide note found on the deceased, as such the Police had commenced an investigation into the matter to unravel the cause of his death.

The police spokesperson however said he cannot confirm whether the man killed himself because his friends were sleeping with his wife as alleged.
