The Labour Party has filed an appeal against the Kano Federal High Court’s judgement nullifying the candidature of Abia State governor-elect, Alex Otti, in the March 18 governorship election.

Recall that Otti’s candidature was nullified following a lawsuit filed by Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The judgement was given on grounds of the Labour Party not complying with the requirements stipulated in the 2022 electoral act and also failing to submit its membership register to INEC at least 30 days before their primaries.

Labour Party’s legal counsel, Umeh Kalu, SAN, said they filed an appeal on May 22, for the judgement of the trial court to be set aside.
