The founder of First Step To Stardom, Nkechi Discovery shares her vision of empowering creatives in Nollywood to achieve their dreams and aspirations with Dr Uzor Ngoladi in this exclusive interview. Excerpts:
Tell us about yourself?
My name is Nkechi Discovery. I am married and living with my family in London. I am an actress, film producer and TV presenter based in United Kingdom. I’m the CEO of New Discovery TV London and First Step To Stardom Limited.
Why is Nkechi discovery trending in Nigeria?
Well let’s just say I’m a humanitarian, who love to see people smile through my services. As an actress who had a bitter encounter in Nollywood, I grew up and chose to become a ladder for aspiring actors, actresses, comedians, musicians and whoever aspires to successful climb to limelight. I aim to achieve this through creating a platform tagged First Step To Stardom.
First Step To Stardom is an extensive capacity building programme for aspiring artistes who wish to access the creative industry as an actor. We don’t just train them but we provide them with opportunities to play major roles with Nollywood super stars in all our movies.
The first step to stardom is the First free online International reality TV theatre practice training show aired on YouTube and Facebook twice a week, every Mondays and Thursdays by 4pm. I have students all over the world. It is a worldwide film school.
We Bring in Nollywood legends, icons, award winning directors and actors to tutor them. We just produced a film that ended on the 22nd of December 2020 titled Relapse directed by Chico Ejiro who died on 25th December. The movie featured graduands of First Step To Stardom. Their names are Chioma Collins, Vivian Onungu, Heroine Fred, Honey Peaceful, Kennedy Zisuh, Minash Mom and Nancy Victor.
When did you join the entertainment industry?
I joined in the year 2000. Have not really been stable. I have been on and off.
What innovations are you bringing to the table?
With First Step To Stardom a lot of dreams will come alive as I bring entertainment to your door post. My crew travels worldwide to get our graduands partake in our films. So, becoming a star at the comfort of your home is phenomenonal.
Can you function effectively from London when the movie industry is actually in Nigeria?
Yes. With God on my side, I can do all things. I can travel to Nigeria to produce movies; I can bring actors in oversea to shoot in Nigeria. Whichever one suits me at the time. Distance can never be a barrier for me.
