The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested four suspects including a 70-year-old grandfather identified as Muhammadu Ibrahim, with 57.2kg of cannabis in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.
A statement issued on Sunday by NDLEA’s Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed that three other suspects were arrested between May 29 and 31 in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, Ekiti and Katsina states.
Babafemi said in Abuja, a 25-year-old lady, Blessing Thomas, was arrested with 1.0kg methamphetamine by NDLEA operatives on patrol along Kwali – Gwagwalada expressway on Friday, May 31.
He said that the suspect was travelling in a commercial bus from Lagos to Yola, Adamawa state when she was apprehended.
The NDLEA spokesman said on Thursday, May 30, two suspects identified as Suleiman Kazeem, 35, and Sunday Gbenga, 20, were arrested when NDLEA officers raided Ara Forest, Ara-Ekiti in Ekiti state.
He noted that during the raid, 426 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa already processed and packed in big sacks were recovered and that 4,000kg of the same substance on 1.66 hectares of farmland was destroyed.
“In Katsina state,76 blocks of cannabis weighing 42kg were seized from a Nigerien, Suleman Audu, 29, when he was arrested by NDLEA officers along Zaria – Malumfashi Road on Wednesday 29th May,” he said.
