The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has announced a reward of up to N5million for whistleblowers who provide credible information that leads to the arrest of kidnappers, armed robbers, or the discovery of their hideouts in the state.
Soludo made this known during the launch of Operation ‘Udo Ga-Achi’ (Peace Shall Prevail) in Awka on Saturday.
The new security intervention force, a collaboration between various law enforcement agencies, aims to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the state.
Addressing attendees, Soludo explained the need for a collective approach to tackling crime, pointing out that criminal activities have evolved and become more complex.
“We are taking a decisive action on security,” he said.
“We are determined to make Anambra the safest state, and that begins with the involvement of everyone in the fight against crime.”
The governor urged residents to share any information related to criminal activities by calling the toll-free security hotline, 5111.
“Whistleblowers will be rewarded based on the nature of the crime and the value of the information they provide, with bounties reaching up to N5 million,” Soludo added.
However, he encouraged communities to develop their own security programs. To incentivise vigilance, any community with zero crime over the course of a month would be rewarded with N10million.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the governor of Anambra State has announced that 2000 personnel from various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the vigilante group “Agunechemba” had been mobilised for a major security operation in the state.
Meanwhile, 200 patrol vehicles have been deployed to cover every corner of Anambra.
The operation aims to address the growing security challenges, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug abuse, land grabbing, and other violent crimes.
The governor noted the government’s commitment to tackling criminal activities head-on and intensifying efforts to ensure public safety.
He urged residents to actively participate in the fight against crime, stating, “For our long-term survival, we must rise up and fight together. If you see or know something, say or do something! Silence means complicity.”
In a related move, the governor signed the Anambra State Homeland Security Bill 2025 into law, which formalises the new security initiative.
He also announced Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi as the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono-Itam, spoke on behalf of the security commanders, praising the state government for the initiative and assuring the public that security agencies were fully committed to ensuring Anambra remains safe and secure.
