Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has appointed 14,000 advisers for various political units in the state.

The governor also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers.

Wike, who has been involved in a running battle with the National Chairman of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, disclosed the appointment in a statement made available through his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri on Tuesday.

Although, it is suspected in some quarters that the appointees were appointed to play a role in the 2023 general elections, Wike said the advisers will play a pivotal role in his administration, which has less than eight months left to spend in office.

“In addition to the 14,000 advisers, Governor Wike has also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers. The appointments are with immediate effect,” the terse statement said.
