The Dan Maraya Charity Foundation, an NGO, has distributed foodstuffs to over 100 aged women and widows in Ilorin as a form of selfless service to humanity.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sharing was done for the beneficiaries at Ile Oyan and neighbouring compounds in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.
The Founder, Alhaji Abdulwasiu Yahaya, said he was motivated to give back to the society due to the fact that growing up was not easy for him.
”Many things motivated me; one of which was the fact that I am an orphan, I lost my parents at a tender age and growing up was not easy for me.
”That was what earned me the name Dan Maraya, which means an orphan.
”I started giving out to people right from when I had little or nothing, because I believe in giving to people especially those that do not have.
”After looking at what I went through when I was in school that I do not have anyone to fall back on.
”That is why I decided now that the little I have now should be shared among the needy around me,” Yahaya said.
He disclosed that he had on Saturday given some selected 25 students from different compounds and local governments in the state N10,000 each.
One of the beneficiaries, Alhaja Hajara Qudus, commended the philanthropist for his kind gestures.
She urged other wealthy persons and philanthropic organisations to emulate him.
Another beneficiary, Alhaja Bola Suleiman, also commended the giver and prayed that God will bless him more to give back to the society more than he is doing presently.
Alhaja Rianat Yahaya, the step mother of the donor, also appreciated him for coming back home to show his philanthropic gesture.
She urged others in the society to also toe his line and not wait for when they have plenty things to give out.
Yahaya said no matter how small one think the foodstuff shared was, the beneficiaries would pray for him when eating them.
The cleric, who coordinated the sharing of gifts, Alfa AbdulRazaq Yahaya, also urged other well to do individuals in the society to embrace the act of giving to ameliorate the sufferings of the people.
He said as small as the foodstuffs given were, if such is done by 10 different people in the society daily, it will bring smiles to the faces of people around.
NAN reports that the foodstuffs shared were Semovita, salt, spaghetti and noodles. (NAN)
