The Forum of South East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual harassment of a female student by a lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN). The incident whose video is trending on social media, underscores the urgent need for universities and educational institutions to implement strict policies and procedures to prevent and address sexual harassment.

The incident has sparked outrage across academic and social communities, and FOSAD is calling for a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter. The forum urges the university administration to take swift action to ensure that justice is served and that measures are in place to protect students from such misconduct in the future.

“The Forum of South East Academic Doctors unequivocally condemns any form of sexual harassment, particularly within academic settings. Educational institutions must be safe spaces where students can learn and grow without fear of intimidation, exploitation, or abuse. We stand in solidarity with the alleged victim and her family and call on the University of Nigeria Nsukka to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this incident.”

FOSAD also encourages other academic institutions to review their policies on sexual harassment, ensuring that they have clear guidelines and support systems for victims. “It’s crucial that universities foster environments where students feel empowered to report incidents without fear of retaliation”.

The forum further emphasizes the importance of creating a culture of respect and accountability within academic environments. This includes ongoing education and training for faculty and staff on issues of sexual harassment, as well as transparent procedures for addressing complaints.

“We must work together to create a safe and respectful educational landscape. We encourage everyone – students, faculty, and administration – to stand against sexual harassment in all its forms and to advocate for a supportive and inclusive academic community.”

The Forum of South East Academic Doctors is committed to supporting the University of Nigeria Nsukka in its investigation and to advocating for the rights and safety of all students. The forum will continue to monitor the situation closely and offer assistance where needed.

The Forum of South East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) is a professional organization dedicated to promoting academic excellence, ethical conduct, and social responsibility in educational institutions across South East Nigeria. The forum advocates for the rights and well-being of students and supports the academic community in creating a safe and inclusive environment.
