As the preparation for Igbo Day/ New Yam festival slated for 18th of September this year, gathers momentum in Ghana, the Eze Ndigbo Ghana and the Assistant Publicity Secretary Association of Ndieze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, HRM Eze Dr Amb. Chukwudi Ihenetu on the 23rd of July visited the former president of Ghana, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor in his country home, Eburi, Ghana.
At the meeting, His Excellency John Kufuor endorsed the festival and promised to be physically present at the event which is scheduled to holds on September 18th.
On the entourage of the Umuduruoha Amaigbo Nwagele Imo-State born Royal Father, HRM Dr. Amb. Ihenetu were: HRH Eze Dr Chuma Okadigbo, High Chief Harrison Kalu Mba and High Chief Isaac Chigbata Ogbonna
In his remarks, HRM Ihenetu paid glowing tributes to the former Ghanian president for his cordiality with Ndigbo when he was in government and even after leaving office.
“We are here to pay His Excellency John Kufuor courtesy visit and to thank him for his fatherly guidance and support for Ndigbo and other Nigerians living in Ghana. we are also using the forum to invite you to Igbo Day/New Yam festival that would take place later in September 18th this year”
In his response, His Excellency John Kufuor thanked HRM Dr. Amb. Ihenetu and his delegations for the visit while assuring them of his support.
Although the Igbo Day/ New Yam festival is an annual celebration, this year’s event is spectacular because it marks 10 years of HRM Ihenetu on throne as the imperial King of Ndigbo in Ghana.
The festival which attracts tourists and people from all walks of life is recognized by UNESCO an arm of United Nations and has earlier been endorsed by Ga traditional institution and the Ghana Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
According to HRM Dr Ihenetu, a global Ambassador, philanthropist and winner of 2021 Champion Newspaper Personality awards, the event promises to showcase rich Igbo culture and traditions to all the numerous attendees and tourist lovers
