The Oyo State Government says it is investigating the explosion that rocked Ibadan City on Tuesday to determine the cause.

A loud bang was heard around Agbowo, Samonda, Sango, Orogun and Bodija areas of the city on Tuesday evening, causing panic.

“The Oyo State Government is aware of reports of an explosion in Ibadan. Residents are urged to remain calm as security agencies are investigating this to determine the source and cause of the incident,” the state government said on Tuesday evening.

Some residents told SaharaReporters that the explosion came from a gas plant.

“I just confirmed that the explosion was caused by Gasland at Samonda, close to Aerodrome Estate. It rocked many areas in the city and affected businesses,” a resident of Samonda told SaharaReporters.

Another source in the area said he heard it was a gas explosion.

“Many windows in the areas were shattered by the explosion; everyone first thought it was a bomb but we later got to know that it was from a gas plant,” the source said.

However, efforts to reach the spokesperson for the state police command, Adewale Osifeso and the state fire service to ascertain what happened failed.
