DIIGL condemns Tinubu’s speech, calls for immediate action to address protesters’ demands

The Delta Indigenes Initiative for Good Leadership (DIIGL), a human rights advocacy organization, strongly condemns President Bola Tinubu’s recent address regarding the nationwide protests against bad governance in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Sunday, General Ejiwealth Emareyo, Chairman of the Board, criticized the president’s speech as being filled with empty promises and lacking empathy for the many peaceful protesters who have lost their lives at the hands of the Nigerian police.

“The president’s speech does not address the dire realities faced by Nigerians,” said General Emareyo. “It is disappointing that instead of showing genuine concern for the lives lost and the grievances of the people, President Tinubu chose to praise the very security forces responsible for these tragic killings.”

DIIGL also denounces the actions of politically sponsored thugs who have been paid to attack protesters. “It is unacceptable that instead of protecting the rights of citizens to engage in peaceful protests, there are efforts to intimidate and harm them,” added Emareyo.

The organization calls on leaders at all levels of government to take meaningful action to reduce the cost of governance and prioritize the welfare of the people. “It is the right of every Nigerian to engage in peaceful protest,” Emareyo emphasized. “Leaders must listen to the voices of the people and address their legitimate concerns.”

Many Nigerians have taken to the streets to protest against bad governance, inflation, and insecurity since President Tinubu assumed office. Despite the president’s lavish lifestyle and extravagant spending, ordinary Nigerians continue to experience untold hardship.

DIIGL therefore calls on the president to immediately take measures and steps to meet the demands of the protesters, as the hunger proclaimed by all is becoming unbearable and inhumane in the midst of Nigeria’s abundant resources.
