In a major political shift, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant realignment in the state’s political landscape.
Arise TV reported that the development was confirmed on Wednesday evening following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba. Speaking via phone, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, stated that the decision followed “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”
Oborevwori, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election on the PDP platform, was received by senior APC officials, signaling a high-profile boost for the ruling party. Political analysts have begun describing the move as a strategic repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with potential ripple effects across the South-South region.
