Most Rev. Daniel Okoh, President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Plateau, and donated relief materials to cushion their sufferings.

Okoh, in company of other CAN officials, was at Bokkos IDP camp on Tuesday, where he prayed for them.

The president said that the visit was to commiserate with the people and government of Plateau, on the level of destruction and killings in the state.

The cleric stated that while traveling through the state, they saw how livelihoods were destroyed.

He prayed for an end to the wanton killings and destruction of the people’s sources of survival.

“The perpetrators are said to be unknown, but we always pray that one day God will unravel these people and we shall know them.

“But we pray that this kind of thing will not continue. However, we are here to pray with you and stand in solidarity with you.

“What we do in CAN is to stick together, to not only defend the Christian faith, but to also promote the welfare and well-being of everyone regardless of religion or ethnic background,” he said.

He called on the federal and Plateau governments to ensure that the IDPs returned to their ancestral homes.

Mr Monday Kassah, Chairman, Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA), described the visit by CAN national and state officials as comforting.

“We want to thank you and all Nigerians, because when it happened, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was here.

“All the security chiefs and many other Nigerians identified with us, and that has strengthened and given us hope.

“We are encouraged, and we have hope that we will bounce back stronger than we used to be.

“We discussed this with the Governor of Plateau; he is working very hard in conjunction with the Federal Government, to see that these IDPs are taken back to their place of abode,” Kassah said.
