Cache of weapons recovered as police raid residence of man who shot his friend during heated argument in Abuja hotel

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a 33-year-old man, Obinna Nwigwe, who shot his friend with a pump-action rifle during a heated argument in a hotel.

The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, disclosed this while parading some suspects at the command headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

According to the CP, police operatives responded to a distress call from Najob Guest House in Bwari where a 29-year-old man, Andrew Philemon, was found bleeding from critical injuries. 

Upon raiding the suspect’s residence, police operatives discovered an array of weapons including an AK-47, a bow with arrows, knives, a taser, a bulletproof jacket as well as multiple sets of police uniforms and boots. 

“On December 26, 2024, police officers responded to a distress call from Najob Guest House in Bwari, where gunfire had been reported,” the CP stated,” the CP stated.

“Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Andrew Philemon bleeding from critical injuries after being shot by 33-year-old Obinna Nwigwe. Nwigwe claimed the shooting was an act of self-defence following a heated argument.

“At the time of the incident, he was armed with a pump-action rifle. A thorough search of Nwigwe’s residence yielded an alarming array of weapons, including: – Five Dane guns – One English-made single barrel – An AK47 magazine containing 29 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition – Four live cartridges – Seventeen expanded cartridges – A bow with arrows – Various knives, a sword-stick, and a toy gun – A taser and a bulletproof jacket – Multiple sets of police uniforms and boots.

“Andrew Philemon is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital, while Obinna Nwigwe is expected to face charges once the investigation concludes.”
