Abductors of Catholic priest demand N200m ransom in Edo

The abductors of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Thomas Oyode, has demanded a ransom of N200 million for his release.

Gunmen attacked the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivhianokpodi, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State on Sunday, October 27, 2024, and abducted the priest, who is the rector.

It was gathered that the kidnappers contacted the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, led by Bishop Gabriel Dunia on Monday evening, demanding the ransom. . 

“On Monday evening, the kidnappers contacted the Auch Catholic Diocese and asked them to pay N200 million if they want them to release the priest,” a source told Daily Trust. 

“As of Monday, negotiation with the kidnappers was yet to commence and I don’t know if the Catholic family will discuss it.” 

Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, Director of Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi also confirmed the ransom demand to the publication. 

“It is true,” Rev Egielewa said.
