Aba residents have pledged support for Prof. Barth Nnaji and his Geometric Power Limited if they would resort to doing business according to the law and conscience.

Some of the residents spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba on the sidelines of the inauguration of the power company on Wednesday.

They assured the company of their support if it would provide them with reliable power supply, prepaid meters to manage their consumption, listen to and act timely on their complaints.

Goodluck Ibem, President-General, Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), said the company’s inauguration was a welcome development hence it must be perfected through more commitment and hard work.

“My charge is that the Aba IPP should ensure transparency in their billing system so that energy consumers will be happy to pay.

“Before now ,somethings have been happening which Aba Power consumers have been kicking against, and which if they continue to toe those lines, would make them appear lawless and lose customer support”, he said.

He said  the prospects of residents of Aba  enjoying a 24-hour power supply, and every business getting a boost for better performance, would improve GPAL’s fortunes should it follow the law and conscience.

He asked GPAL to wipe estimated billings inherited from Enugu DisCo to ease the burden of consumers in prepaid meter era within Aba Ring-Fenced Area.

Mrs Victoria Chukwudimma, another resident of Aba, said power  was supplied to them in the middle of the night when most industrial users would have no need for it.

“In Umuuchichi where we live, we are given estimated bills that are high and most times we are given N18, 000 to N20, 000 per flat.

“We have tried to apply for prepaid meter but they are telling us to pay about N90,000 plus for single phase, so we want them to give us free prepaid meters to help us manage our consumption”, she said.

According to her,  if the company does its business lawfully and satisfies customers’ needs, Aba customers will  support their work.

Mrs Doris Nkemakolam and Mr Ben Chinaka aka Nwokembaise, said GPAL should serve the customers as expected by supplying them reliable power and prepaid meters.

They also said GPAL should listen and act on their complaints timely,  to enjoy their support. (NAN)
