Rape: Kogi commissioner files N100m libel suit against Oyeniyi & Akpoti

The embattled Commissioner for Water Resources in Kogi State, Hon Abdulmumin Danga has filed a libelous suit against Barr Natasha Akpoti and his accuser, Ms Elizabeth Oyeniyi.

Danga has been on the news over allegations of unlawful abduction, battery and rape levied against him by Ms Oyeniyi.

Oyeniyi alleged that Danga committed these crimes against her over a post she made on Facebook asking him to take care of his family before public charity.

In the suit filed at the High Court of Justice in Ebogogo, Adavi Local Government Area, in which Oyeniyi and Akpoti were joined as defendants, Danga has asked for the sum of 100 million naira as general and exemplary damages against the defendants for libelous publications against him.

“The defendants’ Faceb postings and viral videos are libelous of the claimant, and same have lowered his reputation in the eyes of the reasonable persons in the society.” the suit read.

“The 2nd defendant (Akpoti) decided to sensationalize the false allegations by making several postings on her Facebook page against the claimant, the 2nd defendant proceeded further on the same social media platform and labelled the claimant, ‘an animal in human form,’ and a ‘rapist.’

Danga also sought for an order of Court directing the defendants to retract their statements using Confluence FM, Tao FM, Jatto FM and Otite FM in the state; Channels Television and four National newspapers.

Also, an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants and their legal representatives from publishing same libelous statements against him.
