Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered cocaine and heroin concealed in fireproof iron safe box during a raid on a suspected drug trafficking hotspot in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the discovery in a post shared on X on Sunday.
According to Babafemi, the drugs were found during a raid in the Abuja area of Port Harcourt, where suspected drug dealers allegedly used iron safe boxes, typically meant for securing valuables, to store high-value illicit substances.
He said the boxes were used to protect the drugs from theft and other forms of damage.
“Iron safe boxes are meant to preserve money, documents and jewellery against fire and theft, but NDLEA officers have discovered during a raid at the notorious Abuja area of Port Harcourt that drug dealers now stash high-value illicit drugs such as cocaine and heroin in same fireproof iron boxes,” Babafemi stated.
He also shared footage showing NDLEA operatives locating and opening one of the safe boxes during the operation.
According to the agency, the safe was cracked open with a welding machine on Tuesday, August 25, leading to the recovery of 237 grammes of Colorado, 316 grammes of cocaine and 10 grammes of heroin.
