The Oyo State Government has demolished a suspected kidnappers’ den located at Lakoun along the Ayegun-Olojuoro road in Ibadan, where the sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons were recently held captive.
SaharaReporters gathered that the demolition followed a series of security operations in the area after the rescue of the victims by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
On Sunday, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police was also observed visiting the abandoned kidnappers’ hideout in Lakoun, where the abducted victims were reportedly kept before their rescue.
The visit came a day after security agencies confirmed the successful rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of Chief Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
On Saturday, SaharaReporters reported the rescue operation in which police operatives freed the victims after a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers.
The operation, which took place at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, followed intelligence-led tracking and coordinated tactical action by security personnel.
According to security sources, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, while two firearms were recovered from the gang. The rescued victims were said to have been freed unhurt.
The operation also triggered a manhunt for fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate, some of whom were believed to have escaped with gunshot injuries.
The abduction had occurred earlier on June 3, when Mrs. John-Paul and her twin sons were intercepted while travelling in Ibadan. Witnesses had described the attack as coordinated, with armed men blocking their vehicle and whisking them away.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters at the time showed a red Toyota Camry abandoned at the scene with its doors left open, while residents gathered in shock.
The family of Chief Adelabu later confirmed the incident, describing it as distressing and appealing for swift action from security agencies.
Mrs. John-Paul, who previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian, had retired voluntarily last year before relocating to Ibadan with her children. She was reportedly preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who is based in the United States.
Security authorities are expected to continue investigations as pressure mounts to dismantle remaining members of the kidnapping network operating in the area.
