The Edo State Security Corps has arrested a 25-year-old labourer identified as Ibrahim Oseni for k!lling his 18-year-old cousin, Hassan Suleiman following unresolved disputes in their hometown in Katsina last year.
The Deputy Commander of the Corps, Operations, Richard Balogun who confirmed the incident said the suspect confessed to the crime.
According to Balogun, the incident happened on February 19, 2026, at the Evbuoarue community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.
He said the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Evbuoarue unit of the Igbae Sector Command following a distress report of a m8rder in a bush in the community.
Balogun said the suspect allegedly committed the act in retaliation for a dispute he had with the deceased, who is also his cousin, while they were both in Katsina State in 2025.
“They both resolved the issue and came to Benin city together for normal daily commercial activities, but unknown to the deceased, his cousin did not let the matter go,” he said.
โWhile at the Evbuoarue community, the village where they both do menial jobs, the suspect asked the deceased to take him to a farm road with his motorcycle to get some herbs for his stomach upset.
โThe deceased who never knew that would be his last on earth embarked on the journey. On getting to the farm road, the suspect immediately brought out a cutlass and cut off his head.
โHe immediately collected his mobile phone, the sum of N36, 000 cash and then escaped to an unknown destination while the deceased was declared missing by his associates in Evbuoarue.”
He alleged that the suspect transferred part of the N36,000 to his family in Katsina.
The commander said the cutlass used by the suspect to behead his cousin was found under his sleeping mat.
Balogun also added that the suspect took the phone of the deceased and it was recovered from where he hid it.
It was gathered that the suspect also told his people in the community of the death of the deceased.
He was alleged to have taken the people to the scene, but there was suspicion about how he knew of the incident and the scene.
It was under suspicion that they alerted the operatives of the Edo State Security Corps, who arrested him.
He has been handed over to the Ugo Divisional Police headquarters with the exhibits recovered from him for further investigation and prosecution.
