At least 60 students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Kano State, have been expelled from the institution over examination malpractice.

The decision was taken at the university’s 43rd statutory Senate meeting, after a review of reports and recommendations submitted by relevant academic and disciplinary committees.

The expulsions were announced in the university’s official Weekly Bulletin published on Friday, which stated that the affected students were found guilty of violating the institution’s examination rules and regulations.

“After reviewing the cases, the Senate approved the expulsion of the students in accordance with the university’s examination regulations,” the statement sighted on Saturday read.

According to the newsletter, the Senate examined each case before approving the expulsions in line with existing regulations.

The university reiterated “its zero-tolerance policy on examination misconduct,” stressing that “strict sanctions would continue to be enforced to deter future violations.”

The institution also warned that any form of examination malpractice would attract severe consequences, regardless of a student’s status or department.

In April 2025, BUK expelled 62 students and rusticated 17 others over examination misconduct, a decision adopted by the university Senate at its 42nd meeting held on February 26, 2025.
