Joe Biden sworn in as the 46th president of America

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr has been sworn in as the 46th president of the United States of America amist COVID-19 pandemic and tight security at the Capitol Washington DC.

With his hand on a five-inch-thick Bible that has been in his family for 128 years, Mr. Biden recited the 35-word oath of office swearing to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution” in a ceremony administered by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., completing the process at 11:49 a.m., 11 minutes before the authority of the presidency formally changes hands.

This came shortly after Kamala Harris was sworn in as vice president. Kamala Harris is the first woman and the first woman of color to serve as vice president. Democrats will take control of both chambers of Congress.

“This is America’s day,” Mr. Biden said as he began his Inaugural Address. “This is democracy’s day.”

“Democracy has prevailed!” an elated Biden told the crowd that gathered to witness the event while thanking his predecessors who were in attendance.

He described America “as a great nation where great people has significant possibilities”

The new president called for unity and vowed to defeat domestic terror while serving all Americans.
