The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has finally released nomination forms to the Lagos State Chapter of the Labour Party, clearing a critical hurdle ahead of the July 12, 2025 Local Government Elections.

This positive development follows persistent pressure and strategic engagement by the Pastor (Dr.) Mrs. Adedayo Ekong-led executive committee of the Labour Party in Lagos, which had consistently demanded that LASIEC recognize the legitimacy of the Labour Party under its duly recognized National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure.

The State Chapter expressed its profound appreciation to Barr. Julius Abure for swiftly intervening to resolve the impasse. His timely and decisive action played a significant role in ensuring that the rights of party members and aspirants in Lagos were not suppressed.

Until yesterday, LASIEC had maintained it was awaiting clarification from INEC regarding the authentic leadership of the party in the state. However, after sustained pressure, LASIEC has now commenced the sale of nomination forms, enabling Labour Party candidates to begin the formal documentation process.

The party also acknowledges that LASIEC granted a 48-hour extension for the sale of nomination forms, allowing additional time for the party to purchase the forms. While the delay was avoidable, the Lagos Chapter of the Labour Party commends LASIEC for eventually doing the right thing by allowing the party to participate fully in the democratic process.

“This is a victory for justice, democracy, and the unwavering commitment of our members across Lagos,” the party stated. “We salute the bold leadership of Pastor (Dr.) Adedayo Ekong and the steadfast support from our national chairman, Barr. Julius Abure.”

With nomination forms now in hand and candidates ready in nearly all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), the Labour Party affirms its complete readiness for the July polls.

“We remain focused, prepared, and determined to bring about real change through credible, grassroots leadership. The Labour Party is on the march, and Lagosians can expect a powerful showing at the July 12 elections.”
