The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has reinstated all final-year examinations earlier cancelled due to students’ violation of the university’s directive on wild celebrations.

The affected examinations, taken on Wednesday, January 20, 2025, by graduating students from the Faculty of Arts—including the Departments of Mass Communication, English, and History & International Studies—were nullified on January 29, 2025.

However, in a memo signed by the Acting Registrar, Ephraim Ikharehon Isiraojie, on Wednesday, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, granted clemency and approved the reinstatement of the cancelled examinations following appeals from various stakeholders and the remorse shown by the affected students.

He instructed all relevant university officers to begin immediate processes to restore the status of the examinations.

The memo reads in part, “You will recall that the University Management had on 29th January, 2025 cancelled the examinations written by graduating students from the Faculty of Arts, (Department of Mass Communication, English and History and International Studies) for violating the University Management directive on prohibition of wild jubilation/celebration on campus. The affected courses included, but were not limited to ELS 411, MAC 414; and HIS 416.

“Following the remorse shown by the affected final year students and pleas from various stakeholders, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel on behalf of the University Management has graciously approved clemency to all affected students.

“The Acting Vice-Chancellor has also directed that the status of the affected examinations be reinstated. All concerned officers are to commence the processes immediately.”

“Please note that the University remains committed to implementing Senate rules ad relevant conduct codes. It is the hope of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, that new and returning students adhere strictly to University rules and maintain good conduct,” the statement adds.
