Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a renowned elder statesman, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on May 3, 2025. The family revealed the burial plans in a statement signed by Ms. Ayotunde Ayo-Adebanjo, Mrs. Adeola Azeez, and Mr. Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo.
Adebanjo died on February 14, 2025, at the age of 96. His funeral proceedings will begin with a Day of Tributes and Service of Songs at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos. A wake will be held at his country home, Isanya Ogaba, Ijebu Ode, followed by his interment and a reception for guests at his residence.
The statement announced that a Day of Tributes and Service of Songs will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
A wake is set for Friday, May 2, 2025, at Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s residence in Isanya Ogbo, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
The final burial service will be conducted at St. Phillips Anglican Church, Isanya Ogbo, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
A thanksgiving service will follow on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the same church, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.
As a dedicated politician and activist, Pa Adebanjo played a crucial role in Nigeria’s political evolution, particularly as a chieftain of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, and former organising secretary of the Action Group.
The family expressed their desire for prayers and support as they continue to prepare for his most befitting burial.
They also conveyed their hope to see everyone at the events, extending their heartfelt appreciation and highest regards.
