Access Bank has paid tribute to the late Herbert Wigwe, former CEO of Access Holdings, his wife Chizoba, and their son Chizzy, who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in California exactly one year ago, on February 9, 2024.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the bank honoured their memory, reflecting on the profound impact they had on the institution and the wider community.
โToday marks one year since the world stood still for us. On this day, we lost Herbert, Doreen, and Chiziโthree remarkable souls who left an indelible mark on our lives and our hearts.
โOne year later, we still feel the void, but we also feel the weight of their legacyโone that challenges us to be better, do better, and strive for greatness.

The Wigwes were among six victims who died when their helicopter crashed near the Mojave Desert in California on February 9, 2024. The tragic accident sent shockwaves across Nigeriaโs business and financial sectors, as Herbert Wigwe was widely regarded as one of the countryโs most influential banking leaders.
A remembrance service for the late Herbert, Chizoba, and Chizi Wigwe is currently being held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, Nigeria.
