Three siblings – a 5-year-old boy and his two sisters, aged seven and nine – were brutally murdered, and their bodies were stuffed inside a deep freezer in their house by unknown assailants in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The eldest of the murdered siblings, Ejezie Chikaima Daviana, along with her sister, Ejezie Chimziterem Dominica, and their brother, Ejezie Chimdilim David, were eating in their house when the killers stormed in and murdered them.
In an interview with our reporter, Mr. Ejezie Udochukwu, the father of the murdered children, who is based in Irrua, Edo State, explained that his wife, Mrs. Chikazo Ejezie—a lecturer and nurse—had left the house to take an examination on Saturday when the incident occurred.
Upon her return, she found the house wide open, which was unusual as the children always locked the door when they went out and their parents were not around.
Udochukwu, who said his wife called him and informed him of the incident told our reporter, “My wife told me after searching for the kids by herself and a search party, without success, in despair, the deep freezer was opened and behold, the dead bodies of the kids were there.
“In the bungalow where we live, we are only two tenants and the landlord. The kids were eating when the assailants stormed the house at about noon as there were traces of food in plates that were like forcefully abandoned.
“The corpses of the kids have been deposited at a morgue by the police officers from the CPS (Central Police Station) Nnewi where we reported the matter and the police are investigating it.
“You can see that I am completely devastated. My three kids killed at the same time by yet to be identified assailants.”
When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said the state police commissioner has ordered that the case be immediately transferred to the State Criminal iInvestigation Department, Awka, the state capital.
Ikenga said, “The bodies have been recovered and the CP has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a comprehensive look.”
As of the time of this report, the assailants have not been identified or arrested, and the motive behind the children’s killings remains unknown.
The grieving father also couldn’t identify any prime suspects or mention anyone he had issues with that could have led to such a tragic event.
