Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the Chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. George Chima.
Prof. Chima was abducted on Friday, January 31, 2025, from his Okigwe residence in Imo State while playing host to some guests.
According to a family source, the ABSIEC Chairman was playing host to some lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu when the gunmen numbering four, stormed the house, harassed his visitorsย andย whisked him away to an unknown destination.
Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, who confirmed the development to The PUNCH said that operatives are on the trail of the kidnappers.
โYes, we are aware of the kidnap of the Prof and we have commenced investigations. As I speak to you now, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, personally led the team of police to Okigwe.ย The police are assuring all that we will catch the kidnappers,โ the PPRO added.
