The Kano State Police Command has arraigned a 19-year-old female gang leader, Shamsiyya Adamu and four members of her gang for criminal conspiracy, trespass, and theft.
Recall that the police smashed the syndicate of thieves and arrested the suspects on December 21, 2024 following reports of stolen phones in Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano.
30 persons, including 29 females and one male, lodged complaints against Shamsiyya, who confessed to stealing their mobile phones on various occasions in 2024.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the arraignment in a statement on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, said four additional suspects were arrested and 12 stolen mobile phones recovered.
“The Kano State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, particularly with the arrest and arraignment of a female-led syndicate of thieves,” the statement read.
“The syndicate, led by Shamsiyya Adamu, was taken into custody along with four other members and arraigned before a Chief Magistrates Court, number 18 Gyadi Gyadi in Kano for criminal conspiracy, trespass, and theft.
“In addition to the initial arrests, four more suspects – Fati Auwal, Kamal Sale, Usman Nasir, and Bashir Ibrahim – were taken into custody for theft and receiving stolen properties. Twelve mobile phones were recovered from them, and investigations are ongoing.
“A total of 86 people have lodged complaints against the suspects, highlighting the extent of their nefarious activities.
“The State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has directed the continuation of the recovery of stolen phones and appreciated the support and cooperation of the law-abiding people of the state.
“This development is part of the Kano State Police Command’s efforts to ensure safety and security in the state.”
