Governor Yusuf sacks Kano SSG, five commissioners in major cabinet reshuffle

In addition to the dismissals, several members of the cabinet were also reassigned of their duties.

Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has sacked the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and five commissioners  in a major cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday, December  12.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi was also affected, as his office has been entirely scrapped with immediate effect.

The spokesperson to the Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa who disclosed this in a statement, named the affected five commissioners to include Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, Finance; Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Culture and Tourism; Baba Halilu Dantiye, Information and Internal Affairs; Shehu Aliyu Yammedi, Special Duties, and Abbas Sani Abbas, Rural and Community Development.

Dawakin-Tofa said the move was part of a broader effort “to enhance administrative performance and political retool.”

He added that Dr. Bichi was relieved of his position due to health reasons.

In addition to the dismissals, several members of the cabinet were also reassigned of their duties.

The Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam was moved from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Higher Education; Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman was reassigned from the Ministry of Science and Technology to Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata was moved from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Also, Hon. Amina Abdullahi is now assigned as the Commissioner, Ministry of Women, Children, and Disabled Affairs, while Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo was reassigned from Environment and Climate Change to the Ministry of Special Duties.

Several commissioners that retained their portfolios include Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice), Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud (Agriculture), and Hon. Musa Suleiman Shannon (Budget and Planning).

Others are Dr. Abubakar Labaran (Health), Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar (Land and Physical Planning), and Engr. Marwan Ahmad (Works and Housing).

The Governor however directed the Chief of Staff and commissioners that were dropped to report to his office for possible reassignment.
