No fewer than 15 children have d!ed in a road accident that occurred along Saminaka Road in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The accident occurred around 1 pm on Sunday, September 15, 2024, when a J5 commercial bus carrying 63 children, mostly youngsters travelling to celebrate Eld El Maulud, collided with an oncoming trailer.
Corps Commander Kabiru Nadabo, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kaduna State, confirmed the incident on Monday, September 16.
โThe driver of the J5 bus lost control due to overspeeding, resulting in the fatal crash. Fifteen children d!ed instantly, while 48 others sustained varying degrees of injuries,โ he said.
โThis accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving. We urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies.”
The injured were rushed to Comprehensive Hospital in Saminaka, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital.
โThis accident is a wake-up call for all drivers to prioritise road safety,โ Nadabo said.

The FRSC has advised drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits, especially during festive period.
Nadabo added that the command has launched an investigation into the incident.
