Osun verdict: It’s victory for democracy – OmoBarca congratulates Governor Adeleke

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart and philanthropist, Hon Francis Bathlomew Chima aka OmoBarca has described the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the Osun State governorship election as ‘victory for democracy and liberation for the people’.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Nigeria in its verdict affirmed Ademola Adeleke as the Governor of Osun State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared that Adeleke of PDP polled 403,371 votes to defeat then-incumbent, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 375,027 votes.

But Oyetola and the APC rejected the result of the poll and headed for the tribunal. The governorship election in the state was held on July 16, 2022.

In its January 27, 2023 majority verdict, the Justice Tertse Kume-led tribunal annulled Adeleke’s victory and declared Oyetola the winner of the poll.

While congratulating Adeleke on his victory, OmoBarca called on the opposition to sheath their sword, embrace peace and synergize with the governor to deliver dividends of democracy to Osun citizens.

He eulogized Adeleke as a God-fearing, honest and easy going politician whose leadership qualities is needed at this time to move Osun State to the next level.

OmoBarca advised the governor to settle down and work for the transformation of the state and her citizens that have freely given him the mandate during the election.
