Everybody is suffering, it is the turn of Nigerians to take back their country – Peter Obi

Ahead of the February 25 presidential election, the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has said it is nobody’s turn to govern Nigeria.

Obi is challenging Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) among others for the nation’s top job.

Speaking on Thursday during an interactive session with students and stakeholders at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Business School in Enugu, Obi faulted candidates who have been absent from presidential debates.

According to him, character and competence should be used to evaluate whoever will be voted as president.

“Everybody is suffering, let nobody tell you it is his turn. It is the turn of Nigerians to take back their country.

“If we are going to do it by turn, I am one of those who will claim it is my turn. I am not running as my turn. I am running as a proud Nigerian who is qualified to be President,” Obi said.

The LP flag bearer described the 2023 general elections as one that is based on characters Nigerians can trust.

He challenged politicians to be transparent on details about them, including academic qualifications, age among others.

“Here in Nigeria, somebody wants to contest election, we don’t know his real age; we don’t know his name; we don’t know the schools he attended. Nobody knows his real identity and he is pushing to lead everybody.

“My name is Peter Obi. I can say I went to CKC, went to University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Both the VC today, the DVC today, these are my school mates. We came into university the same year and left the same year.

“The people I went to school [with], I can see them here today — my seniors and my juniors. How come we now have people who do not have classmates? This is very important,” he added.
