University of Lagos to honour founder of FCMB, Otunba Subomi Balogun at Diamond Jubilee Awards

For his contribution to the revolution and development of modern banking in Nigeria, Founder of Nigeria’s first private investment bank, Otunba Dr. Michael Olasubomi Balogun, CON will be presented with the Honorary Distinguished Alumnus award of the UNILAG Alumni Association.

This was revealed by the National President, Dr. John Momoh, OON, NPOM, when he led a 5-man delegation to the palatial Ikoyi home of the sage of Nigerian Banking industry and the founder of the financial powerhouse – FCMB Group – on Friday.

The President noted that the visit was to notify the top banker and financial guru of his nomination for the Honorary award at the 60th Anniversary Dinner & Awards of organised by the Unilag Alumni Association which holds on Saturday, November 26, 2022.

In response, Otunba Dr. Balogun pledged his commitment and that of his organisation to the event after which he shared personal life stories of his rise from a lawyer at 25 to owing Nigeria’s first private investment bank at 42 which culminated in owing one of the leading banks in Nigeria – FCMB – few years after.

Otunba is still very active at 89 and he continues to ascribe his phenomenal success to God. A copy of his autobiography ” *The cross, the triumph and the crown* ” and ” a second book *The Financial Behemoth built by God*” were autographed and gifted to the President, Dr. John Momoh.

Members of the Unilag Alumni delegation are 1st National Vice President, Chief Dr. Fassy Yusuf, FIoD, Executive Secretary, Mrs. Yetunde Abatan, Alumni Relations Manager, Mr. Seun Badejo and Digital Media Officer, Mr. Jeremiah Olatinwo.
