The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to trust the resolve of the party to change, restore and rebuild Nigeria.

He assured that under his watch if elected president, Nigeria would change for the better.

Obi spoke in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State on Thursday during the flag-off campaign of the governorship candidate of the party in the state, Alex Otti.

Obi lamented that major industries that made up the centre of local production of goods in Aba and other major cities in Nigeria, were dying because of adverse business policies in Nigeria.

He said, “We are determined to rebuild Nigeria. We want to secure Nigeria and stop insecurity.

“We have visited the power geometric company in Aba and assured them that Aba will have constant light if we are voted into power. We will fix the roads such that a journey from Aba to Port Harcourt will be 30 minutes only.

“We are not here to make fake promises. I urge Abians to read the manifesto of our governorship candidate in Abia State, Chief Alex Otti, I can assure you that he will keep to all the promises made in that document.”

In his speech, Otti urged Abians to insist on character, capacity and competency as factors that will determine their choice of candidates to vote for in the 2023 general election.

He said he joined the governorship race as declaration of his interest to rescue Abia from the grips of bad governance of over 23 years.

Otti stated that the message of freedom will be taken to every nook and cranny of the state until victory is achieved.

He maintained that non-payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities and massive unemployment would be a thing of the past under his watch as governor.

He said,  “This is the most critical election in our lives, it’s the last chance we have to retrieve our state from those who don’t have respect for our lives and happiness.

“Do not permit any other consideration than credibility, character and competence to determine your choice of candidates.

“Bad governance is spread across the state. Just like we buy things from the same market, nobody buys things cheaper from being from a particular part of the state.

“Insist on capacity, character and insist on competency as the only factor that will determine your choice of candidates.

“Ndi Abia takes politics seriously because it determines your lives and the opportunities that will come your way.

“Do not shun voting because every factor that encourages rigging of election has been expunged from the lexicon of the Independent National Electoral commission. Cast your votes and insist that the results are uploaded to server before leaving your voting centre,” he added.
