Federal Govt Colleges in Abuja shut down over rising insecurity

The Federal Ministry of Education has directed Federal Government Colleges (FGCs) located in the FCT to close and immediately evacuate students.

The directive is reportedly a result of threat to the lives, security and well-being of the students.

The schools were asked to vacate latest on Wednesday, July 27.

Some schools already sent messages to parents on Sunday, July 24, asking them to pick up their children on Monday, July 25, unfailingly.

On Sunday evening, following unconfirmed reports of heavy shootings in Federal Government College in Kwali, Abuja, parents rushed to the school to ascertain the safety of their children.

A parent identified as Chika, whose three children are in FGC Kwali, confirmed to Sun News, that a message came from the school that parents should come to pick up their children no later than Monday noon.

She said: “We received message from the school about the latest development but no explanation was attached to the message. So, when we reach the school on Monday maybe, we would get more details on what led to the sudden decision.”
