Breaking: Suspected Fulani herdsmen attack Catholic church, kill over 70 worshippers

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have attacked a church in Ondo State, with over 70 worsippers killed while scores were injured.

The incident was said to have occurred at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The attackers entered St Francis Xavier Catholic Church as service got underway on Sunday morning at the main community parish, an official said, firing live rounds on congregants before detonating explosives already planted in the church.

The attackers were identified by locals as being members of the ethnic Fulani stock, and a lawmaker said the tragic incident was orchestrated to send a message to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

It was gathered that the Catholic church is behind Olowo of Owo palace.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that over 70 members of the congregation were shot and slaughtered. 

One of the videos of the incident obtained by SaharaReporters shows that children were also killed in the attack.
