2023: PDP South East presidential aspirants resolve to work as a team

Ahead of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries, apirants from the South East have agreed to work as a team in order to produce a credible candidate from the region.

Rising from a closed door meeting on Saturday that was attended by four aspirants from the South East, they issued a communique on why the next PDP presidential flagbearer must emerge from the South East.

Read Communique below:

  1. We have resolved to work together as a team.
  2. We will work together to ensure that a Southeasterner emerges as flag bearer of the PDP.
  3. We intend to consult with other zones on this issue and it is based on Fairness and Equity.

In doing so it is important to note that we have always supported other zones and we now expect them to reciprocate the gesture.

In attendance during the meeting include: Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, Former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa and Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze.

A total of 13 aspirants have so far purchased nomination forms to contest for president on PDP platform and will be screened on April 25.

The 13 presidential aspirants are: Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal; a United States-based medical doctor, Nwachukwu Anakwenze; Newspaper publisher, Dele Momodu; Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; Investment banker and economist, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen; former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel and a Pharmacist, Sam Ohuabunwa.

Others are:  former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim and the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, as well as the only female aspirant in the race, Oliver Tareila Diana.
