The Department of State Services has accused the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, of making an unwarranted statement against security agencies including the Service.
The Service called on politicians to leave it out of their politicking, saying that it was committed to maintaining neutrality and transparency in the discharge of its mandate.
In a statement by the spokesperson of the Service, Peter Afunanya, on Monday, the DSS said the PDP Chairman, while speaking at an event on the 23rd February 2022 in Owerri, Imo State, said his party would not use the SSS to harass the people when they take over Aso Rock in 2023.
The DSS described the statement as unjustified, unfair, speculative and meant to incite the public against the Service.
The statement was titled, โAyuโs unprovoked diatribe against DSS.โ
It partly read, โThough the Service restrains itself from joining issues, particularly with politicians, it wishes to state its disapproval of such statement which is considered unjustified, unfair, speculative and preposterous.
โExcept to malign and incite the people against it, the Service questions the rationale behind such an unprovoked description of it by Chief Ayu who had variously benefitted from it and indeed the State.
