The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the deployment of 34,657 security personnel for the November 16, Ondo State Governorship Election to ensure security.

Egbetokun, who disclosed this on Friday in Akure during the signed of peace accord among candidates of various political parties participating in the election, revealed that the 34,657 police personnel would be deployed to polling units, wards, and strategic locations.

He said that apart from the over 34,000, another 8500 would be deployed from other agencies like the Nigerian Customs Service and the Nigerian Immigration Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The police chief explained that the constant review of threat analysis would enable effective deployment of human and material assets.

With these measures in place, the National Peace Committee said it hoped for a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election in Ondo State.

“The police will timeously provide enough Armoured Personnel Carrier (APCs), Trucks, Patrol Vehicles, Buses for covert operations, Ambulances, Helicopters, Drones, K9 and anti-riot equipment to complement the strength of Ondo State Command,” he added.
